On day 1, I created Raven Darkholme, being a HUGE X-Men fan. So, my wife andI dcided that ALL characters should have the lat name of "Darkholme". I erased that character a LOOOONG time ago, but since then I've got:

Saldonus Darkholme - My main character, Necro/Monk. Also My oldest. I made up his first name.
Garion Darkholme - My Monk. Garion is the main character in The Belgariad Series
Alistaire Darkholme - My Mesmer. I remember thinking they all looked gay, literally, so, I MADE my Mesmer to be a gay character. That's why I chose the "Ben Affleck" face. The name sounded gay enough, so it stuck.
True Darkholme - My Ranger. Figured it kinda went with the "aiming a bow" thing. His pet's name is "Tride", btw.
Azarael Darkholme - My Paragon. I wanted an Angelic - sounding name.
Jamahl Darkholme - My Dervish. I preferred the darker skin color for the Dervish, andwanted a character that had an appropriate ethnic name.
Onyx Darkholme - My Assassin. Onyx is a black gemstone. I picture assassins running around all ninja-looking, so...?
Polgara Darkholme - My Elemental. Polgara is Garion's aunt in the same book series.
Torak Darkholme - My Warrior. Torak is the Antagonist in the Belgariad series.
Talisman Darkholme - My Ritualist. Kinda seems appropriate.

for some reason all my male characters start with the letter F and all my female characters start with the letter L

Chanti Beppu - From the book "Last Legends of Earth"

Torga Dea - Anagram of Gator Ade.

Sake Toomai - From Austin Powers (first one - hot tub scene)

Fembot Mesmer - Yeah, baby!

Dora Explora - I swear I've never heard of the cartoon. Never ever! (BTW, her middle name is not "The." It's MILLICENT, dammit!)

Way back in the mists of time (actually when Diablo came out), I looked around the Diablo forum and saw far too many names like Thorgrimm the Skullthewer, Malus Bloodfreezer and the like.

Being a perverse kind of guy I decided to go for something completely anti-RPGish. I came up with Mouse, and have used Mouse in all my online characters since.

Aurora Firenza: I wanted to make an air ele so I went with Aurora and Firenza because I just returned from a trip to Florence and though it would be cool (Florence is actually spelled Firenze in italian).

A couple of my names came from characters in another game I had played, to make it easier for friends to find me when they made the switch to GW. Some are a variation of my name with 'Madam' or 'Lord' or 'of where ever'. Yes my name could be either female or male.
I have a 'set' of 6 core professions in pre on my second account. They are all Lillians. L Killian (N), L Chillian (E), L Axmillian (W), L Quillian (R), L Illian (Me), L Healian (Mo). Something just for giggles.
Account 3 is made up of Maxines. M Sledge, M the Bold, M the Wild, M the Divine. (Maxine is a grumpy old woman in cartoon style, that always speaks her mind.)
Mules are Oak Trunk, Holding Tank I & II, My Post Mule I & II.

I use variations on the names of my favorite musicians or directors:

Muir Damike = Mike Muir, lead singer of Suicidal Tendencies
Staley Dalayne = Layne Staley, late lead singer of Alice in Chains
Raimin Dasam = Sam Raimi, director/writer of Evil Dead, Xena, etc.
Zigin Dandio = Danzig and Dio
Ghad Rayc = Chad Gray, lead singer of Mudvayne
Edde Slare = Eddie (Iron Maiden mascot) and Slayer

Marvollo Gaunt- from Harry Potter, Marvollo was Voldemorts middle name, Gaunt was in his ancestry

I named most of my characters from history. Majoring in Archaeology influenced me in the names for my character and I love anything related to history. I have a few char names that are faked for fun but I'll list some of them that are related to history.

Jadi Lontres (necro) /Jadi Laurel (warrior): Jadi was taken after an epic poem about Jadi Rana a king in India (don't remember which area). The poem talks about a group of zoroastrians who were fleeing persecution and asked Jadi Rana for shelter in his kingdom. He asked them to explain what they are really about and then provided shelter on the condition that they follow the customs of Jadi's kingdom. Later on, the refugees built a Fire Temple with the permission of Jadi Rana. I find epic poems cool.

Euphemia Rhodius (paragon): Euphemia is a name for a saint who was matryed for her faith. She went through a lot and achieved her status as a saint for her strong faith(I'm not into religion but it's an interesting read). Rhodius came from Apollonius Rhodius who was a librarian at the Library in Alexandria. By combining the two names I created a character that fit well with the theme in Nightfall, a Hellenistic Egyptian paragon.

Nefer Rati (dervish): Nefer Rati is actually spelled Nefertari named after an Egyptian queen best known to be the wife of Ramesses the Great (or Ramesses II).

I originally decided to go for Nefertiti (queen known for her beauty) but don't want to get banned for having the last part of her name interpreted as something else.

I separated her name to fit the two word restriction and changed it to a name I can use.

Two characters are names after videogame characters and the rest that i haven't named, are made up. I pretty much forgot how I named them except the newest one Jadi Tanzt Mit Mich was for kicks. It's german for Jadi dances/dance with me. I made a mistake on the mich part but I can always start over with my sin to have it set to Jadi Tanzt Mit Mir.

(Sorry if this is a long one, but this needed a good long detailing. Otherwise it would be vague.)

My name was deeply an inspired one. It resulted from long years of RPGing. The first name, Owik, was inspired by Sir Oric Von Liechtenstein who is the the main character of the movie 'A Knights Tale' (the characters real name was William Thatcher, but changed the name because he took over the role of the knight he served after the knight died). It is also based on his determination and strong will to overcome over all hardships that he faced as a knight and a peasant man. In the scene where his jousting rival is looking through the tournament rank books the rival pronounced Oric's name differently than anywhere else in the movie. I knew he said Oric, but what I heard was Owik. So, that's how I got the first name.

The last name, Gall, was by accident. When I was playing the first Neverwinter Nights game I repeatedly clicked the random name button in the character creation screen. The name Gall popped up and it caught my eye. Later, I looked it up to see if it means anything. As it turns out, Gall is a word meaning to have great courage. I couldn't pass it up after finding that out and I gave my warrior that last name.

The name stuck with me ever since and eventually it migrated to Guild Wars.

Finding an inspiration for your name is a good approach to making one. Especially in a fantasy rpg.

Archmage Eversong-...Used Archmage from my love of fire emblem (Archsage Athos anyone?) and...i've been using the name "Eversong" as a last name/username for many things before WoW used it for an area in their game, i don't really care though...it's just a name.

Archsage Dusk...named after Archsage Athos (yes again) and my favorie time of day is Dusk...soo.....

Archsage Remiel...yes, another name inspired by my love of Fire Emblem...and Remiel was my favorite boss to fight in ToS..didn't like him that much as a character, but it was a fun boss fight.

That's how i name my characters usually, a title then last name or first name...

That or i go to one of those random name generators lol

This name was done with a random name generator and i added titles like "the great" after it. I really dislike it now though so I've reserved new names for GW2. Said names are as follows:

Zhaitans Avatar - Zhaitan is an antagonist of GW2, Avatar means the embodiment of.

Avatar of Zhaitan - As before but switched around, i think i prefer the first one but keeping this anyway

Zhaitans Assassin - I guess you get the idea now

Grenths Sylvari - Grenth being the god of death is a start, then i added sylvari because its the race im choosing for GW2. I want to be a male sylvari, and the sylvari running in the background at 3:31 of the trailer has no shirt, and uless ANet wants to do an AoC im expecting its a guy.

Quickly rushed to get those names reserved. But happy now that ive got a decent name happening.

I always start with the index in the back of the Lord of the Rings for names from the elfish language. Shortened Maedhros to Maed and made up Turkglen for a last name. Thought that would be a good ranger name.
